Pittsburgh Panthers running back James Conner endured a hellacious 2015, a year in which he was expected to compete for the Heisman Trophy. He suffered a season-ending knee injury a few weeks into the 2015 season and was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in December.
Miraculously, after undergoing eight treatments for the lymphoma while simultaneously rehabbing from a major knee injury, Conner was able to return to the practice field this past week. Even though he will not be allowed to engage in full contact at all during spring practice, Conner’s courageous recovery from both ailments is such a quick amount of time is almost unbelievable.
Conner has an excellent reputation as a leader on and off the field, and he fully displayed that he has the heart of a lion by never giving up in dealing with two debilitating maladies at the same time. Hopefully, this season Conner will be able to return to 2014 form, a season that saw him win ACC Player of the Year.
As for his professional aspirations, Conner should not be underestimated. He has all of the physical tools of becoming an All-Pro running back and clearly has the willpower to help get him there.
